Summer Assignments

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Summer is a great time for students to practice what they have learned throughout the school year. There is no better activity for them than to engage in reading for enjoyment! Students will not only discover the joy of being lost in a book, but it will help strengthen their reading comprehension and fluency skills.

According to research studies, “extensive reading is linked to superior performance on measures of general knowledge, vocabulary, spelling, verbal fluency, and reading comprehension.” The amount of time students spent on reading is the best predictor of reading achievement. Summer reading will provide all our students with this opportunity, and keep their minds energized during the summer!

You will find below in this page the required summer reading books and assignments (per grade/course). Please encourage your student to complete all the summer reading requirements. During the first week of school, students will be assessed on what they read and will be given a grade for Quarter 1.

To obtain copies of the summer reading books, please visit your local Library, or you may purchase the books. Thank you for helping us promote students’ lifelong love of reading. Have a blessed summer.

Sincerely,

Ms. Melanie Garcia, M.S.Ed.
Vice-Principal of Academics
